Do you want to add new experiences like Surfing and
Snowboarding to your sports journey? Are you too excited to implement this initiative?
Then just bear with me.
Because I will walk you through the whole process to help
you choose the best one for you. So what are you waiting for?
Let’s try to know the difference between Snowboarding Vs
Surfing and turn your excitement into reality.
Snowboarding Vs Surfing
There are many similarities between Surfing and
Snowboarding. For example, Surfing and Snowboarding both are outdoor games,
have to maintain proper balance on the board to a greater extent, and both are
very enjoyable.
The main difference is, Surfing requires ocean waves whereas
Snowboarding requires a mountain that is covered with snow.
The other difference is, you need to strap (knot) your feet
with the board while Surfing.
For Snowboarding, on the other hand, your feet must be
maintained in a certain position to surf properly without having strapped on
your feet.
What Sort of Issues Might Disrupt You While Snowboarding?
When you want to be proficient in a particular subject, and
at the same time you face all sorts of obstacles in achieving the goal, then it
will be frustrating for you.
Similarly, you will encounter a huge amount of obstacles
while learning snowboarding. It is very important to develop knowledge about
obstacles before jumping into snowboarding.
Snowboarding is very reliable depending on the weather
conditions. There are a lot of weather issues that can disrupt you while snowboarding.
Rain:
For beginners, the first obstacle that they could face is
Rain. Rain will make snow a little bit slippery which is not ideal for
learners.
But for those who know snowboarding, this is not a big
headache. Snowboarding with rain is fun for them. Because they don’t have to
swag that much while snowboarding.
So if you are a beginner, personally I don’t recommend you
going with snowboarding in the rain.
Heavy Snow and Strong Winds:
At the top of the hill, heavy snow and strong winds create
hazardous conditions.
Due to the strong winds, the snow makes the mountain
environment muddy. As a result, anyone will have a hard time seeing things in
front of them which can be very risky. Sometimes you may not find your partners
at the time of Snowboarding.
Furthermore, excessive humidity in the air can cause your
bones to become extremely cold.
High Temperature:
An ideal temperature for snowboarding is below 30 degrees.
The lower the temperature, the better the situation will be for you. The
quality of the snow will elevate further as the temperature decreases.
On the other hand, the snow will become slushy as the
temperature rises. It will turn into a great headache for snowboarders. They
will face difficulty controlling their snowboard which will affect their
turning movements.
What Sort of Issues Might Disrupt You While Surfing?
Since a Surfer has to deal with water, there are many
challenges that he or she may face during Surfing. Let’s try to point out some
of them.
Weaker Wind:
Waves are pretty much dependable on the wind. The stronger the wind, the greater the waves. Not only strong wind but also the energy level of that wind has to
be maintained for a certain period.
Wait, I haven’t finished yet.
In addition to the duration and
strength of the wind, the area of airflow
needs to be much larger.
Only then can you surf. So the weaker wind there is, the
harder it becomes for you to surf.
N.B. You may think that I am talking about
Storms by mentioning strong winds. It is not like that. I have come here to
make it clear that weaker wind is a curse for Surfing. Why is that? You will
find out in a moment.
Onshore waves:
We can divide waves into two ways, one is offshore waves and
the other is onshore waves. The obstacle you will encounter while Surfing is
the onshore waves.
Offshore waves are ideal for Surfing. Why is that? We know
the waves break occasionally.
If this break is long, you can say that it features an offshore
wave.
On the other hand, when a wave’s break is too short, i.e. it
gives more breaks in less time, and then it is characterized by onshore waves.
That’s why you won’t be able to Surf when there are onshore
waves in the Ocean. Because for Surfing, you need waves for a longer period
which is contrary to the properties of an onshore wave.
Offshore waves occur when the waves are stronger and longer
which requires strong winds and fewer breaks. Then you can surf easily with the
help of it.
So now the biggest question that comes to your mind is,
which sport to choose. I know the feeling. Let’s try to find out the answer in
our further segments.
Which one? Snowboarding Or Surfing?
Well, if you ask me which one to choose. I will say it depends on the specific person. But before that, I’ll ask you some questions.
What sports are you interested in?
Do you like to play in the water?
If yes, then I’ll ask again, did you know that Surfing is a
lot harder to learn compared to Snowboarding? Yes, you have heard right.
If you are finally ready to work hard, Surfing may be the
choice. Yeah, I said ‘maybe’. Why is that? To find out the actual reason, you
need to see our further sections.
Why is Surfing Harder?
Wave Nature:
If you read the previous part of this article carefully, you
know very well that Surfing is totally dependent on ocean waves. And you know
very well that the nature of ocean waves changes very fast which will cause you
to suffer extremes while Surfing. Most of the time when you go to learn Surfing
you have to think a lot about the nature of the waves which will make your
learning curve more challenging.
Time:
You might think that you will learn to surf on the first day
of your Surfing. But you’re wrong in this case. Surfing requires a considerable
amount of time. You already know that you have to wait for a certain period for
Surfing.
Surfing depends on so many variables that change at a
regular interval. You probably surfed the first session of the first day very
well, but in the next session, you will be disappointed when you see that you
can’t judge the waves properly.
Effort:
Everyone’s mood changes at regular intervals.
Maybe one day you saw that your mood is too good for Surfing
and you’re feeling very energetic just when you see that there are no surf
waves in the ocean.
So you need to keep the mood ready for Surfing on a regular
basis which requires a lot of effort. Besides, Surfing is very difficult where
you need to use more of your physical strength while Surfing.
So if you think about the effort for Surfing, you have to
pay more than you think.
Less Opportunity:
When a surfer goes surfing he has very few opportunities to
ride in the waves as well as to stand properly. Therefore, you can assume that
your chances of the learning rate are much lower.
Why is Snowboarding Easier to Learn?
You don’t have to rely so much on nature while snowboarding as you do on surfing.
You can go snowboarding if there is a hill with a certain amount of snow.
As a result, it takes less
time to learn Snowboarding than Surfing.
Surfing, on the other hand, takes a lot of effort, but snowboarding is like a slide game. You just
need to slide down and enjoy it. As a result, you will have more opportunities to learn Snowboarding than
Surfing.
What’s More Fun?
Both are pretty fun to play. In my eyes, Surfing is more
fun. But the more fun it is, the more effort it takes.
When you go Surfing, you can enjoy your time at the beach.
It is more exciting and enjoyable.
On the other hand, Snowboarding is also enjoyable to play
in. You can feel the air while sliding down to the hill. You can have a cup of
tea or coffee in the middle of the hill.
Final Words
Whichever of these two sports you choose to play, each sport
will add a new dimension to your experience. They are both great to play. At
the same time, you have to keep in mind that both require a lot of effort to
learn. You have to be very dedicated, determined, and eager to learn.
